Counterfeit Emerson Knives Warning
Emerson is issuing a customer alert to purchasers of products, particularly via internet sales, in regards to bogus Emerson products that are apparently being illegally imported from the People’s Republic of China. These products bear many of the marks and trade dress of current making them very hard to distinguish externally from authentic Emerson products. In recent months, counterfeited Emerson’s have begun to arrive with increasing regularity to the Emerson headquarters for service. These products are not manufactured by Emerson and are not covered by the Emerson Knives, Inc Guarantee.
The thing to be aware of is that if you are an internet shopper and you find a price that is "Too good to be true", then it probably is a counterfeit.Remember that the customer demand for Emerson Knives has always exceeded the supply. And, Emerson does not discount any of their products. Our prices to distributors, dealers and retail are structured so that no one seller has an unfair advantage over any other seller.
Once again, be advised that a ridiculously low priced Emerson is possibly a counterfeit or that the dealer does not and probably never has had, an actual Emerson Knife in stock but unfortunately, is using the Emerson name to lure you into buying some other product.
We recommend that you buy an Emerson Knife from a reputable, well regarded dealer. We have experienced too many stories of ultra low priced sellers taking customers money and then claiming that the knife is on backorder – sometimes for months. Verify that the dealer has the knife in stock before you order.
We are looking out for you but in the end, as the Ancient Romans said so simply “Caveat Emptor” – Let the buyer beware.
Good Hunting,
Ernest R. Emerson

From these angles you can notice the color of the thumb stud
screw is different.
The bevel in the thumb stud for the screw to sit
in.
How bad the contours on the fake are, compared to the rael
Emerson.
Notice the "cut" of the liners, the real Emerson is CLEAN! and the
fake looks to have several gouges.
Also the notchs in the the lockbar are
crisp and clean on the real Emerson, and the fake ones look very
different(smaller)
The first two pictures show the differences in the contours on
the back side scales.
The huge gouge on the fake, and once again the liners
are noticeably different.
The clip is close, but not an Emerson clip, and the
torx screws for the clip is a no-no.
The lanyard holes are not the same size.
Now for the blades.......
The logo on the real Emerson is
slanted upward from right to left,
and the fake slants downward from right to
left.
The swedge on the fake comes down to low, and meets the grind from the
belly to far back.
The grind on the fake has lines in it. The real Emerson is
smooth.
The thumb stud does not sit flat in the blade.
The curve of the
wave is not as deep on the fake one.
These first picture show how different the knurling on thumb
studs are, and show the gaps on the sides of the thumb stud on the fake.
The
second picture show the swedges up close, and the grind lines on the fake
one.
The third picture shows the notches in the lock liner. Real
Emerson=Crisp cuts!
The fourth picture show the serrations are also not he
same.
Now I know by now some of you Emersonaholics
are thinking "The logo is wrong, why not show a 2008"
Well here you
go, yes a 2008 Commander should say COMMANDER, and MADE IN USA on the lower left
of the logo.
Also the "WAVE FEATURE" & US PAT NO.5,878,500 should be at
the bottom right.(soory about the "VINTAGE 005, it's the only 2008 I have
)
Now lets pull them apart!!!
The first thing I saw was
the lack of screws holding the liners and back spacer together. Fake is PRESS
together.
Then the lack of second detent, the fake does not have one.
Also
the stop pin on the fake is rough cut.
Extra points if you noticed the size
differece between the pivot threads. The fake is about half the size of the real
one.
The cut of the lock bar on the fake is a very rough!
The first picture shows rough cut of the lock bar closer, and
how crappy the liners are.
From the second picture you can see how the pivot
holes in the liners are not the same, and the detent balls and not in the same
spot.
Now last but not least, the washers. WTF?!? The fake one has two
different washers! Looking closer the clear wasker is actually two stuck
together!
Well I hope this helps everyone to spot those fake
Commanders out there.
Just remember that the best way to get your hands
on the real deal is buy your Emerson's from E.K.I, one of our USN
dealers,
or from another USN member right here in the
USN COVE
Thanks to CEVTC for noticing the logo closeup.
